Reason:
Gyokuro is hard to make. Only 500 tons are produced yearly & its process is way more complicated than making matcha/tencha. It needs longer shading periods. Ashina is a small mountain town & make the top 3 gyokuro & matcha in the entire world. The morning mist from Asahina River blankets the leaves with a sweeter umami flavor. The seaweed-like scent is called "ōiga" and is a sign of highest-quality gyokuro.
