Asahina, Shizuoka

It's so good, it's invite-only?

Asahina is a quiet mountain town but one of Japan's top 3 regions for gyokuro & matcha, alongside with Uji & Yame. Asahina has led the Japanese tea industry, receiving numerous honors including the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Award.

Our tea fields spread out on the slopes on both sides of the Asahina River. The magical morning mist bubbling from the Asahina River blankets the tea leaves, giving them the highest-quality sweet and nutritious umami flavor.

Our Asahina masters use traditional shading techniques, giving the leaves this beautiful appearance and umami that fills the mouth.

All of these aspects make Asahina tea worthy of being called "the pinnacle of Japanese tea."

With rising demand in matcha, Asahina only provides to limited Japanese masters & connoisseurs, refusing foreign businesses entry to the market.

We are honored to represent Asahina, Shizuoka and we want you to try our Asahina's magic.

Umegashima, Shizuoka

Umegashima tea fields are magical "floating islands" located at the upper reaches of the Abe River. Being at a very high altitude, making Umegashima's tea fields closest to the sky in Japan. It has snow and temperatures below freezing in the winter. After surviving the harsh winter, our Yabukita tea trees slowly sprout with rich umami and plenty of nutrients in May, one month later than the plains near the sea.

Yabukita is Japan's top variety created by Sugiyama Hikosaburo from Shizuoka in 1908 (Meiji 41). We love this cultivar because it produces a clear color, sweet aroma, and refreshing flavors. It even won "Excellent Tea Award" at the International Tea Fair in Hong Kong. It's the strongest & top-quality cultivar that can endure Umegashima's snow. Yabukita Sencha is a sky cultivar with snow armor.

Shizuoka

Best Japanese Tea

Mt Fuji & Shizuoka Tea

Shizuoka is the home of Mt. Fuji. Shizuoka became the the capital of Japanese green tea, after green tea was brought to Japan in Uji, Kyoto in Heian Era. We can find the most diverse varieties & the highest quality teas in Shizuoka, Japan (30k tons of tea leaves are produced in Shizuoka, 2k tons are produced in Uji)

Shizuoka water is fresh, lava-filtered and sediment-rich & has some of the best water quality in the country with a steep mountain slope and good drainage. The soil is soft yet rich in minerals due to Mt. Fuji’s volcanic ash. The breeze is gentle and elegant. Tea leaves enjoy a warm, elegant climate with ample rainfall. Shizuoka meets both requirements while also having beautiful distinct seasons, making it perfect to grow vibrant, healthy leaves.

Asahina

Morning Mist Matcha & Gyokuro using Shade Grown Technique

Shade grown techniques are used to make delicious matcha and gyokuro. When the new shoots sprout, they will be covered with straw to block out direct sunlight. Blocking the sunlight suppresses the production of catechin, which is astringent, and retains amino acids, which are umami components, creating a unique aroma. Asahina is one of the top 3 regions for gyokuro & matcha in Japan, the others being Uji and Yame. The magical morning mist bubbling up from the Asahina River nurtures the leaves full of flavor. The seaweed-like scent is called "Ooika" and is a sign of high-quality matcha & gyokuro.

Umegashima

Yabukita Cultivar in a Place Closest to the Sky

Umegashima is located at the upper reaches of the Abe River. The tea fields of Umegashima, located at a high altitude, are the tea fields closest to the sky in Japan. Umegashima has snow and temperatures below freezing in the winter. After surviving the harsh winter, tea trees slowly sprout with rich umami and plenty of nutrients in May, one month later than the plains near the sea.

Shizuoka & Its People

We believe in magic and our connection with our partners are our magic & passion. As demand for matcha grows globally, Japan struggles to produce for its own people. Our goal is to ethically source the highest quality matcha & green teas without ruining the industry's ecosystem. We want to make the best delicious green teas with the people & we love and trust. Shizuoka is the biggest producer with a diverse variety of tea farmers. It's also our longest connection. As a tea master, we work with other tea masters & partners to make vibrant green tea of a highest quality.
