One of the "Six Old Kilns of Japan" where pottery has been made since the Heian Era/the 12th century.
Tokoname clay is high in iron oxide, which reacts with tannin and reduces the astringency in tea, giving it a mellower taste.
Yuzamashi / Matcha Bowl

For Sencha or Genmaicha, pour boiled water into the yuzamashi, then pour the water into the kyusu. The water tempreture will become the ideal (175°F/80°C).
For Gyokuro, pour boiled water into the chawan, the yuzamashi, and then the kyusu. The water tempreture will become the ideal (158°F/70°C).
